My 2FA Code is incorrect - what do I do?

If you’re receiving an error message saying your Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) code is incorrect, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Double-Check the Code

  • Ensure you're entering the exact 6-digit code from your authenticator app (e.g. Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator) or SMS.

  • Make sure there are no spaces or extra characters.

Step 2: Check the Time on Your Device

  • 2FA codes are time-sensitive and update every 30 seconds.

  • Make sure the time on your phone or device is set to automatic/time sync with the network.

    • Tip: On Android, go to Settings > Date & Time > Enable “Use network-provided time”

    • On iOS, go to Settings > General > Date & Time > Enable “Set Automatically”

Step 3: Wait for the Next Code Cycle

  • If you're still receiving an error, wait for the app to generate a new code (usually every 30 seconds), and try again.

Step 4: Clear Cache / Try a Different Browser or Device

  • Occasionally, browser issues can interfere with 2FA. Try:

    • Refreshing the page

    • Clearing your browser cache

    • Logging in from a different browser or device

The reason this step is suggested is that browsers store temporary data to make websites load faster and remember your previous settings - this is called the cache. Sometimes, this cached data can become outdated or corrupted, which can interfere with how websites function, including 2FA (two-factor authentication).

What clearing the cache does:

  • Removes stored website data (like images, scripts, and login info) that might be causing conflicts

  • Forces the browser to load the latest version of the website

  • Can resolve glitches or display issues

Trying a different browser or device is another way to bypass any local browser-related problems. Essentially, it helps rule out whether the issue is caused by your current browser or device setup.

In short: if 2FA isn’t working, clearing the cache or switching browsers often fixes it because it removes any corrupted or outdated information that could block the login process.
