The authenticator app is not showing a code

During SSO Registration

You’ve started your SSO Registration Process, verified your email address, and reached the Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) setup step — but your Authenticator app isn’t generating a code.

If your screen looks like this ?

“Looks like there aren’t any Google Authenticator codes here yet.”

Then follow these steps to fix it.

What This Screen Means

This message means:

  • ✅ The Google Authenticator app is installed and open on your phone.

  • ❌ But no accounts (codes) have been added yet.

To generate a code, you must scan the QR code shown on your login page or enter the setup key manually.

Where Things Went Wrong

You likely downloaded the Authenticator app but didn’t complete the “Scan QR Code” step on the setup screen.

Without scanning the QR code, the app has nothing to generate a code from — so it stays blank and can’t verify your login.

Common Reasons This Happens

  • You opened the app but didn’t tap the “+” icon → Scan QR code.

  • You expected the code to appear automatically after download.

  • You closed or refreshed your browser before scanning the QR code.

  • You used the wrong Google account or a different device.

How to Fix It

Follow these steps to finish setting up your Authenticator:

  1. Contact Support
Ask the Support Desk to re-enable 2FA on your profile.

  2. Log in again
Once Support confirms 2FA is enabled, log back into your account.

  3. Open Google Authenticator
Tap the “+” button in the bottom-right corner.

  4. Select “Scan a QR code.”
Point your phone’s camera at the QR code displayed on your login screen.

  5. Enter the 6-digit code
A code will appear in the Authenticator app.
Enter this code in the “Code” box on the login page.

  6. Click “Submit.”
You’ll then be taken into your portal, where you can access your assigned sections (e.g., Training Tracker).

Alternative Option (if preferred)

If you find it easier, you can switch to SMS verification instead:

  1. On the 2FA setup page, scroll down and select “Switch to SMS.”

  2. Enter your mobile number and submit.

  3. Enter the verification code you receive via text message.

(Note: SMS verification is less secure and not recommended where possible.)
